Why do we need a Levy?
- Tax levy monies account for the majority of library funds (approx 60%)
- State Funding (approx 40%) remains uncertain
- Demand for Library services continues to increase including record-breaking circulation numbers!
- A levy will provide for a continuation of services and open hours at all locations
What will this levy cost?
- On March 6, 2012, MPL is seeking approval of a 2 mill 5-year tax levy beginning collection in 2013
- The current 1.1 mill levy costs homeowners $33 annually per $100,000 valuation and is set to roll-off the books in 2012 (collection year 2013)
- Approval by voters of a 2 mill levy will yield a net increase of .9 mills and will cost homeowners $28 more per $100,000 valuation
- Receipts will not be collected in 2013 for the final year of the current 1.1 mill levy - instead voters will pay only $61 annually per $100,000 valuation
